# Asking Claude about SOAP2 when you are away from your PC (BETA, untested)
**Untested draft.** The steps below come from Anthropic's documentation as we understand it and have not been tried end to end. Check Anthropic's current Claude Code documentation before relying on them.
You can ask Claude about SOAP2 from your phone or another computer while SOAP2 keeps running on your home or office PC. The simplest way needs nothing new in SOAP2: **Claude Code Remote Control**.
## How it works
Claude's connection to SOAP2 is local to the PC that runs SOAP2 (see the [AI Assistant guide](./ai_assistant_user_guide.md.html)), so it cannot be reached over the internet, which is a good thing. Remote Control keeps the Claude Code session on that PC and lets you continue it from the Claude mobile app or claude.ai/code. Your PC connects out to Anthropic: no router change, no open port, no VPN. SOAP2's tools work as they do at your desk.
## One-time setup on the PC
1. Install Claude Code and sign in with the same Claude account you use on your phone.
2. Connect SOAP2 to Claude Code (General Settings > AI assistant (Claude) > Claude Code). To check, run `claude mcp get soap2`.
3. Keep the PC awake (Windows Power & sleep: never sleep while plugged in) and signed in as the same Windows user that runs SOAP2. A locked screen is fine. Signing out or switching users is not.
4. Leave SOAP2 running and connected to IB if you want live questions. With SOAP2 closed, Claude can still answer from saved reports and results and from the Help.
## Each time
1. On the PC, open a terminal and run `claude remote-control` (or type `/remote-control` in a Claude Code session).
2. Open that session in the Claude app, or scan the QR code it shows, and ask as usual: "What is the SPX GEX read?" or "Review trade 55."
3. Leave the terminal window open. Closing it ends the session.
Claude may ask permission before using a SOAP2 tool; the question appears on your phone.
## Safety
- Your Claude account is the sign-in. SOAP2 opens no network port.
- Everything Claude can do with SOAP2 is still **read-only**, account numbers stay masked, account balances are never sent, and the live-state calls still need Premium or the Free Trial.
- Protect the PC itself: a Windows password, disk encryption, no shared login. Anyone who controls the session can ask SOAP2 questions.
- Do not start Claude Code with permission checks turned off.
## What this cannot do
It does not work while the PC is off or asleep, or after the terminal is closed, and you do not see SOAP2's windows: you get Claude's text answers only.
A direct "SOAP2" connector inside claude.ai, with no session to start, would need an internet-facing server with proper sign-in. That is not built, and Remote Control is the recommended route.
